In the 1960’s, Seiko announced itself on the internati onal sports right time to stage with a whole new generatio n of high-precision equipment that was enthusias tically endorsed by many internati onal sports federatio ns and also used to capture elapsed time at many of the world’s leading sports events. Central to this success must have been a range of stopwatch es that incorpora ted Seiko’s revolutio nary “heart-shaped cam” mechanism, an element which delivered a level of precision once thought unachieva ble by manual sports timing devices. Then, in 1969, Seiko introduce d the Seiko Speedtime r with the innovativ e Caliber 6139. It was the to-days first automatic chronogra ph having a column wheel and vertical clutch, two devices that delivered real improveme nts within the measureme nt associate d with elapsed time in a wristwatc h and are still a prerequis ite in high functiona lity chronogra phs.
Today, A new series of six timepiece s inspired by the Speedtime r along with Seiko’s rich and continuin g tradition regarding sports time join the actual Seiko Prospex collectio n. A limited edition watch with a new automated chronogra ph movement pays faithful tribute to the design of the particula r 1964 stop-watch, while a second version using the same caliber and a number of four solar chronogra phs complete the range.
